Success at two phases of Sporting Giants testing has seen Frances Nicholls fast-tracked onto GB Rowing’s World Class Start programme, sponsored by Siemens, at Marlow Rowing Club alongside GB Olympic and World champions.
World Class Start programme manager Steve Gunn said: “The testing that Fran and other Sporting Giants athletes have been through shows they have the results to give them the basic parameters to become Olympic medallists”.

Sadly the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta scheduled to take place on Saturday 19th April at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham had to be cancelled because of poor weather conditions.
The organisers would like to thank all who helped on the day and hope to see everyone in 2009.

One of the oldest crews ever to compete in an event on the Thames will take to the water in the Abingdon Head of the River race on Sunday, writes Michael Knox.
Wallingford’s super veteran crew, with an average age of nearly 76, will be rowing in Division 1 at 9.30am, a time when many men of their age will still be in bed.

Peter Haining, three time world championship gold medallist in the lightweight single scull, has joined the Abingdon rowing scene, writes Mike Rosewell.
Haining, 46, will work as a professional head coach at Abingdon Rowing Club and and act as an adviser to various squads at Abingdon School.

The fourth EUSA Regatta will be hosted in Zagreb, Croatia from 28th to 30th August 2008. The document outlines BUSA Rowing guidance with reference to selection policy, and the proposals for the planning and co-ordination of entries.
The 2008 World University Rowing Championships will be held one week after the EUSA Regatta in Belgrade, Serbia, from 5th – 7th September 2008.

After the Doncaster floods girls from Miss Clarke’s Year 10 class at Balby Carr Girls School took to the water to have a go at rowing in the company of experienced coach, Dudley Fletcher. Here’s an excerpt from their report;
‘Our cox was Dudley Fletcher who helped myself and my friend Sophie do the rowing in a double rowing boat. He showed us a lot of different techniques to help us row using the correct technique.

This Sunday (20th April) the BUSA Championships Sprints will be held at the Keynes Country Park within the Cotswold Water Park. This is the first time a BUSA Championships have been held in the water park.
The event, organised by the WAGS regional rowing council as part of their Great Western Sprints, will see 20 different universities compete on the 4-lane, 500m course.
