Alex was selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as one of the spares.
Alex was 15th in the quadruple scull at the 2007 World Championships and raced in the quad through the 2007 World Cup series. Alex is a product of the World Class Start Programme sponsored by Siemens. He raced in the quad at the 2008 World Cup in Munich finishing 10th.
He learnt to row at Evesham where he was coached by Mark Earnshaw, at that time a history teacher locally. Mark became one of GB Rowing’s first World Class Start coaches and Alex won a place at Reading University when they teamed up again.
Alex gained his first GB vest in 2004 in the U23 quad finishing 11th. In 2005 he was 4th in the U23 double and 8th in the single the following year.
In 2006 he graduated from Reading University and he has been a full member of the men’s squad during the 2006–2007 season.
